where i talk about word doodles and a charity project and name drop like a motherfucker

So chatting with the ridiculously talented, and distractingly charming Nicole recently got me all amped up about writing word doodles.

I mean, I always write word doodles, but I’m more excited about it right now.

I went back and looked at the “word doodles + pics” project.

That got me even amped-er.

I’ve long had a plan to expand that project. (Ashley, you signed on. Verbal contracts are binding! Well, typed verbal, in this case.)

One thing I want to do with it is make it bigger and better and then turn it into a book and sell it to raise a little money for a charity.

A while back I discussed this with a couple of friends, Ben and Jenn.

And because they are both brilliant, and well-dressed, lots of good ideas came out.

But since I have a million plans and there are a finite number of hours in a day (and I have a pretty serious sports addiction) I haven’t really gotten the ball rolling on it.

Yet.

I think I want to.

Today.

The present vision for the book is to use the “word doodles + pics” (provided I get permission from the photographers for a book version) and to do a bunch more of them. Including quite a few doodles that have never been read before. Fresh.

But that’s not it.

I also have a couple of (more legit) poet friends who I am going to approach about each writing something for the book.

And a few other ideas are still percolating.

Such as opening the door to including a few reader-submitted doodles.

And letting readers vote on which of mine get in.

But.

But I have something else I want to talk about right now.

I want to do a dealie where you guys submit photos and I pick five that inspire me. Then I write doodles for them.

This will be a week-long blog event first. But later they’ll appear in the book. (You’ll be credited by name and url in both.)

Cool?

Cool.

So send me some photos! (peterdewolf@gmail.com)

I think this’ll run the week beginning March 29th, so please have the pics in by the 24th.

They can be of anything, really. (Well nothing hateful or disgusting or involving Family Guy, please.)

And my criteria for picking the 5 will be…

Whatever causes doodle lines to start popping into my head.

It’s that simple.

I’m excited.

I hope some of you are too.

Guidelines. I need guidelines! Else I might end up spamming you (of course there is the alternative … I might end up forgetting about this entirely). Anyway, what type of photos are likely to inspire you? Inanimate objects? Black and white? Pics of my cat being all cute and adorable? Pics that inspire thoughts of love/romance/lust or can we send through depressing pics? How many pics are we allowed to send in?

      There are no guidelines.

Though I think if people submit things that move them, they might be more likely to move me.

      Or not.

      I don’t know.

Plus it’ll all depend on what mood I am in on any given day.
